About FasesLua
FasesLua is a digital moon phase guide that shows, in real time, the current lunar phase, moonrise and moonset times, and a complete calendar of full moons, new moons, and quarter phases throughout the year. The site was built to answer a simple, recurring question quickly and reliably: "what moon phase is it today?"
How the calculations work
The moon phases shown on FasesLua are calculated using standard astronomical algorithms that account for the relative position of Earth, the Sun, and the Moon across the synodic lunar cycle (approximately 29.5 days). Moonrise and moonset times, when displayed, use the location provided by the user's browser — this calculation happens locally on your device, with no location data sent to external servers.
As with any automated astronomical calculation, small variations of seconds or minutes may occur compared to official observatory sources. For decisions that require astronomical precision (such as eclipse events), we recommend always checking a specialized source, such as timeanddate.com.
What you'll find here
- Real-time moon phase, updated daily
- A complete lunar calendar for the current year
- Educational content about each moon phase, related cultural traditions, and astronomical trivia
- A blog with articles on the moon, wellbeing, and mindfulness practices related to the lunar cycle
Our editorial approach
FasesLua content clearly distinguishes between verifiable astronomical information (moon position, timing, phase dates) and cultural traditions or wellness practices (popular moon names, rituals, meditation), which are presented as what they are — tradition and personal practice, not scientific fact. We aim to be accurate and transparent about that distinction throughout the site.
